leukopenia
Insufficient immune cells
Leukopenia is an abnormally low count of white blood cells, the immune system's primary defenders against infection.
The condition can result from bone marrow disorders, chemotherapy, certain medications, or viral infections.
Someone with leukopenia is vulnerable to infections that a healthy immune system would easily fight off: The chemotherapy caused severe leukopenia.
