retinitis
Inflamed light-sensing tissue
Retinitis is inflammation of the retina, the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye.
The condition can result from infection, autoimmune disorders, or genetic factors.
Retinitis pigmentosa is an inherited disease causing progressive vision loss as photoreceptor cells deteriorate: The doctor diagnosed him with retinitis pigmentosa at age thirty.
