cruciate ligament
Knee's crossing bands
A cruciate ligament is one of a pair of ligaments in the knee that cross each other in an X shape, connecting the thighbone to the shinbone and stabilizing the joint.
The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) prevents the shin from sliding forward; the posterior (PCL) prevents it from sliding backward.
ACL tears are common sports injuries: She tore her cruciate ligament and missed the season.
