complete tear
Fully severed tissue
A complete tear is the full rupture of a tissue, typically a ligament, tendon, or muscle—the fibers are entirely severed rather than merely stretched or partially damaged.
The term appears most often in sports medicine and orthopedic contexts: The MRI showed a complete tear of the ACL.
Compare with partial tear, where some fibers remain intact.
