antitrust
Against market dominance
Antitrust describes laws and policies designed to prevent monopolies and promote competition in business.
The "trust" refers to the corporate trusts of the late 19th century—combinations of companies that controlled entire industries: antitrust legislation, an antitrust lawsuit.
The word is primarily American; British English favors "competition law."
