color TV

Polychrome home screen

Color TV is television that displays images in full color rather than black and white.

The term dates from the mid-20th century when color broadcasting was a technological advance over monochrome sets.

Now that virtually all televisions are color, the term appears mainly in historical contexts or when distinguishing older technology: My grandparents still had a black-and-white set when everyone else had color TV.
