closed-captioning

Dialogue shown onscreen

Closed-captioning is the display of text on a screen transcribing dialogue and describing sounds for deaf or hard-of-hearing viewers.

Unlike open captions, closed captions can be turned on or off by the viewer.

The text typically appears at the bottom of the screen: Make sure closed-captioning is enabled.

Most televisions and streaming services offer closed-captioning options.
