rabbit ears

Old reception aid

Rabbit ears are the V-shaped indoor television antennas that sat atop TV sets before cable became standard, named for their resemblance to a rabbit's upright ears.

The term also describes a sensitivity to criticism—someone with rabbit ears takes offense easily or hears slights others miss: That coach has rabbit ears; don't let him hear you.
