copyist

Medieval text duplicator

A copyist is someone who copies written or printed material, especially manuscripts or music scores.

Before modern printing and reproduction, copyists preserved texts by hand-copying them.

In music, a copyist prepares individual parts from a composer's score for performers.

The word can also mean an imitator, often dismissively: He's merely a copyist, not an original artist.
