allegorist

Symbolic story author

An allegorist is a writer or artist who creates allegories—works in which characters, events, and settings represent abstract ideas or moral concepts.

The term also applies to interpreters who read deeper symbolic meaning into texts, particularly religious scholars who find hidden truths in scripture: Medieval allegorists saw the Song of Solomon as depicting Christ's love for the Church.
