historiographers
Scholars documenting pasts
Historiographers are those who write history, especially official or institutional historians appointed to record events.
The term carries more formality than simply "historians"—a royal historiographer documents a monarchy's affairs, a company historiographer preserves corporate legacy.
The court historiographer recorded the king's military campaigns.
The singular is historiographer.
