filmmaker

Cinema production professional

A filmmaker is someone who makes films—typically the director, but the term can include producers, screenwriters, and others with creative control over a motion picture.

Unlike director, which specifies a role, filmmaker emphasizes the artistic vision behind the work: She's an independent filmmaker known for documentaries.

The term carries more prestige than moviemaker.
