Anglo-Saxon Chronicle
Old English history
The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle is a collection of Old English historical records documenting events in England from the Roman occupation through the early 12th century.
Compiled by monks beginning in the late 9th century under King Alfred, it survives in several manuscript versions that sometimes diverge in their accounts.
The Chronicle remains a primary source for early English history: The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle records the Viking invasions in detail.
