cerebral hemispheres

Left and right brain

The cerebral hemispheres are the two halves of the cerebrum, the largest part of the brain.

Connected by a thick band of nerve fibers called the corpus callosum, the left and right hemispheres control opposite sides of the body and handle somewhat different functions—language processing tends to concentrate in the left hemisphere, spatial reasoning in the right.

Damage to the cerebral hemispheres can affect motor control, speech, or cognition.
