peripheral nerves
Body's wiring branches
Peripheral nerves are the nerves outside the brain and spinal cord, branching throughout the body to carry signals between the central nervous system and limbs, organs, and skin.
They control movement and sensation: The surgeon was careful to avoid the peripheral nerves.
Damage causes numbness, tingling, or weakness—conditions called peripheral neuropathy.
