contralateral
Across the midline
Contralateral means on the opposite side of the body.
The term appears in medical and anatomical contexts: The stroke damaged her left hemisphere, causing contralateral weakness in her right arm.
A contralateral reflex occurs when stimulating one side produces a response on the other.
The opposite is ipsilateral, meaning on the same side.
