gyrus
Cerebral surface fold
A gyrus is one of the ridges on the surface of the brain, separated by grooves called sulci.
The plural is gyri.
The brain's folded, wrinkled appearance comes from these convolutions, which increase surface area for neural tissue: damage to the precentral gyrus, the superior temporal gyrus processes auditory information.
