caging

Putting behind bars

Caging is the act of putting someone or something in a cage, or the state of being confined in one.

The word applies literally to animals kept in enclosures and figuratively to any restrictive confinement: the caging of political dissidents, the caging of children at the border.

In some contexts, caging refers to BDSM practices involving confinement in a cage.
