hockey net

Cage behind goalie

A hockey net is the goal structure in ice hockey or field hockey, consisting of a metal frame with mesh netting attached to catch pucks or balls that cross the goal line.

The net sits at each end of the rink or field, and scoring requires putting the puck or ball into it.

Players and commentators often use "net" alone: He fired the puck into the back of the net.

A goaltender's job is to defend the net from opposing shooters.
