ribcage
Lung's bony enclosure
The ribcage is the bony structure formed by the ribs curving around from the spine to the breastbone, enclosing and protecting the heart and lungs.
Also spelled as two words: rib cage.
The term extends figuratively to anything that encloses like ribs: the ribcage of the ship's hull.
