trip

Lose your footing

Meanings of trip originally involved the feet in some way, but now are much broader.

A trip is a journey that may or may not return to the point of origin, and you don’t necessarily need your feet for a road trip or boat trip.

A trip is also an experience induced by a powerful psychedelic drug.

To trip is to experience such a drug, but also to misstep because of an obstacle or for some other reason, as you might trip over something in the dark.
