skewness

Statistical tilt measure

Skewness measures asymmetry in a statistical distribution—how much it leans to one side rather than forming a symmetric bell curve.

A distribution with positive skewness has a long tail extending right; negative skewness tails left.

The skewness of income data shows most people earn below the mean, with a few very high earners pulling it upward.

Outside statistics, skewness can describe any quality of being askew or off-center.
