barber pole
Rotating salon sign
A barber pole is the striped cylindrical sign mounted outside barbershops, traditionally featuring red, white, and blue spiral stripes that appear to move when the pole rotates.
The design dates to when barbers also performed surgery—red for blood, white for bandages.
Anything with similar spiral stripes may be called a barber pole: The lighthouse had a barber-pole pattern.
