goal post
Field scoring frame
A goal post is one of the vertical uprights that define the scoring area in sports like football, soccer, and hockey—typically a pair connected by a crossbar.
In American football, kickers aim between the posts; in soccer, the ball must cross the line between them.
To move the goal posts is to change the criteria for success after someone has already begun working toward it, making achievement unfairly difficult.
