Tall ribbon-wrapped post
A maypole is a tall wooden pole erected for May Day celebrations, traditionally decorated with ribbons, flowers, and greenery.
Dancers hold the ribbons and weave around the pole in patterns, braiding them as they go: Children danced around the maypole on the village green.
The custom is associated with spring fertility rites and survives mainly as folk tradition.
