apologetics

Reasoned religious defense

Apologetics is the discipline of defending a belief system through reasoned argument, most often in religious contexts: Christian apologetics, Islamic apologetics.

The term derives from the Greek for "speaking in defense," as in a legal proceeding.

Apologetics addresses objections, offers evidence, and constructs arguments for faith—it has nothing to do with apologizing.
