angle iron

L-shaped steel bar

Angle iron is a structural metal bar with an L-shaped cross-section, used in construction and fabrication for bracing, framing, and support.

The two perpendicular faces provide strength and make it easy to bolt or weld to other surfaces: We used angle iron to reinforce the corners of the frame.

Also called angle bar or L-bar.
