steel plate
Thick iron slab
Steel plate is flat-rolled steel of substantial thickness, typically a quarter inch or more.
It's used where strength and durability matter: ship hulls, bridges, tanks, heavy machinery.
Thinner material is called sheet steel.
The welders joined sections of steel plate to form the hull.
