alpha waves

Calm brain oscillations

Alpha waves are electrical oscillations in the brain occurring at 8–12 cycles per second, detected by electroencephalography.

They appear most prominently when a person is awake but relaxed with eyes closed, diminishing during concentration or sleep.

The meditation practice increased her alpha wave activity.

Alpha waves are associated with calm, restful alertness.
