Eskimo

Far north dweller

Eskimo is an old term for the indigenous peoples of the Arctic regions of North America and Greenland.

The word is now widely considered offensive or outdated, especially in Canada, where Inuit is preferred for those peoples.

In Alaska, some groups accept Eskimo as a broader term encompassing both Yupik and Inuit peoples.

Eskimo kisses refers to rubbing noses—a gesture attributed, perhaps inaccurately, to Arctic cultures.
