Stagecoach

Wayne's breakthrough Western

A stagecoach is a large horse-drawn vehicle that carried passengers and mail along fixed routes, stopping at designated stations to change horses.

Before railroads, stagecoaches were the primary means of long-distance travel: The stagecoach arrived at noon, covered in dust from the trail.

The word survives mainly in historical contexts and Westerns.
