bullet train
Rapid transit vehicle
A bullet train is a high-speed passenger train, originally and especially those in Japan's Shinkansen system.
The name comes from their sleek, aerodynamic nose and exceptional speed—typically exceeding 150 miles per hour.
We took the bullet train from Tokyo to Kyoto.
The term now applies broadly to any high-speed rail service.
