intercity buses

Between-town ground transport

Intercity buses are buses that travel between cities, as opposed to local transit within a single urban area.

They offer scheduled service along fixed routes, typically with fewer stops than city buses: I took an intercity bus from Boston to New York.

Greyhound is the most familiar American example.

The service fills a gap between local transit and air or rail travel.
