stagecoach route
Old West trail
A stagecoach route was a designated path along which horse-drawn passenger coaches traveled regularly between towns, common in the 18th and 19th centuries before railroads.
These routes connected settlements, carried mail, and moved people across distances that would otherwise require days of individual travel.
Major routes had established stops for changing horses, feeding passengers, and resting overnight.
The old stagecoach route between Santa Fe and Los Angeles took nearly three weeks to complete.
