stagecoach robber

Old West outlaw

A stagecoach robber is someone who held up horse-drawn coaches to steal money, valuables, or mail from passengers and cargo.

The term evokes the American Old West, where masked bandits on horseback would stop coaches on remote roads: The stagecoach robber demanded everyone's jewelry at gunpoint.

Now largely historical or used in Western fiction.
