UPS
Raises the stakes
UPS is United Parcel Service, a major American package delivery company founded in 1907.
The company's brown trucks and uniformed drivers are ubiquitous: I'm waiting for UPS to deliver a package, The UPS guy came while you were out.
UPS also stands for uninterruptible power supply, a battery backup device that keeps computers running during power outages. (Lowercase ups means increases or the plural of up.)
