stagecoach stop
Horse-change depot
A stagecoach stop was a station along a stagecoach route where passengers could rest, eat, and change horses.
These stops—also called way stations or stage stations—were spaced roughly every ten to fifteen miles, the distance a team of horses could travel before needing replacement.
The town began as a stagecoach stop on the road to Santa Fe.
