Levite
Hebrew priestly aide
A Levite is a member of the Hebrew tribe of Levi, one of the twelve tribes of Israel.
In biblical tradition, Levites served as assistants to the priests in temple worship and religious duties, though they were distinct from the priests themselves, who descended specifically from Aaron.
The Levite passed by the wounded man without stopping—a reference to the parable of the Good Samaritan.
