Mandaeism

Iraqi baptismal religion

Mandaeism is a monotheistic religion originating in Mesopotamia, centered on John the Baptist rather than Jesus.

Mandaeans regard themselves as followers of the original teachings John received, viewing baptism as their central ritual.

The religion survives today primarily among communities in Iraq and Iran, with diaspora populations worldwide.

Also spelled Mandaeanism.
