immigration quotas
National admission ceilings
Immigration quotas are government-imposed limits on the number of immigrants allowed to enter a country, often set by nationality, skill category, or visa type.
The term typically refers to annual caps: The immigration quota for that country was filled within weeks.
Quota systems aim to control population growth, protect labor markets, or shape demographic composition—and have historically been used to favor or exclude particular ethnic groups.
