Teapot Dome
1920s oil scandal
Teapot Dome was an American political scandal of the 1920s in which government officials secretly leased federal oil reserves to private companies in exchange for bribes.
The name comes from a Wyoming oil field.
The scandal became shorthand for government corruption: The administration's dealings made Teapot Dome look tame.
