talkies
Movies with sound
Talkies is an old-fashioned term for motion pictures with synchronized sound, distinguishing them from silent films.
The word emerged in the late 1920s when sound technology revolutionized cinema: The Jazz Singer was one of the first talkies.
Now used nostalgically or humorously, since virtually all films have had sound for nearly a century.
