saxophone

Curvy brass woodwind

A saxophone is a brass wind instrument with a single reed mouthpiece, curved body, and keys operated by the fingers.

Despite being made of brass, it's classified as a woodwind because of its reed.

Invented in the 1840s, the saxophone became central to jazz and also appears in classical music, marching bands, and rock: She plays alto sax in a jazz quartet.
