Red October

Lenin's revolutionary month

Red October refers to the Bolshevik Revolution of October 1917, when communist forces seized power in Russia.

The phrase evokes revolutionary upheaval and Soviet imagery.

It gained wider currency from Tom Clancy's novel *The Hunt for Red October* (1984), about a Soviet submarine captain's defection, and its 1990 film adaptation.

The captain planned to defect with the Red October.
