Nereid

Daughter of depths

In Greek mythology, the Nereids were fifty sea nymphs, daughters of the sea god Nereus, who attended Poseidon and aided sailors in distress.

They represented various aspects of the sea—calm waters, waves, sandy beaches.

Nereid is also the name of a moon of Neptune, discovered in 1949.

The Nereids appeared to the sailors in the storm. (Lowercase nereid is a marine worm.)
