Neptune

Triton's home planet

Neptune is the eighth planet from the sun, a gas giant with vivid blue coloring from methane in its atmosphere.

In Roman mythology, Neptune was the god of the sea, equivalent to Greek Poseidon.

The planet was named for the god, perhaps because of its blue, ocean-like appearance.

A neptune in astronomy is any similar ice giant orbiting a distant star. (Lowercase neptune refers to the planet type.)
