Martin Luther King
Dream speech leader
Martin Luther King Jr. was an American Baptist minister and civil rights leader who became the most visible figure in the movement to end racial segregation in the United States.
His advocacy of nonviolent resistance, inspired by Gandhi, shaped protests from the Montgomery bus boycott to the March on Washington, where he delivered his famous "I Have a Dream" speech.
Assassinated in 1968, he is now honored with a federal holiday in January: We have Monday off for Martin Luther King Day.
