sit-ins
Protests without marching
Sit-ins are a form of nonviolent protest where demonstrators occupy a space and refuse to leave.
The tactic gained prominence during the American civil rights movement of the 1960s, when Black protesters sat at segregated lunch counters demanding service: The Greensboro sit-ins sparked similar protests across the South.
Sit-ins have since been used in labor disputes, antiwar movements, and campus activism.
