peaceful resistance
Calm, deliberate opposition
Peaceful resistance is opposition to authority or injustice through nonviolent means—civil disobedience, boycotts, sit-ins, marches, or hunger strikes.
The strategy relies on moral persuasion and public witness rather than force: Gandhi's peaceful resistance to British rule inspired movements worldwide.
Also called nonviolent resistance or passive resistance, though practitioners reject "passive" as inaccurate.
