Lenape
Mid-Atlantic tribe
The Lenape are an Indigenous people originally inhabiting the mid-Atlantic region of North America—present-day New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania, southeastern New York, and Delaware.
Also called the Delaware or Lenni Lenape, they were among the first Native Americans to encounter European colonizers.
Today Lenape communities exist primarily in Oklahoma, Ontario, and Wisconsin.
The word means "the people" in their Algonquian language.
